The Black Wheat Club frontage on Fossgate at dusk, with hand-painted lettering reading microbakery brunch bistro

Small-batch baking. Seasonal plates. Wine-led evenings.

A microbakery and bistro on Fossgate, York. Bread, pastry and ferments made here in small batches; a shorter seasonal table and a changing wine list on selected evenings.

The room

One room on Fossgate that runs two services.

Black Wheat Club is an independent modern bistro and microbakery, built around homecoming and honest, seasonal cooking. Sourdough, ferments and sausages are made here — everything on your plate starts with our own hands. Service shifts through the day: bakes and brunch by day, then a slower, wine-led table as the evening arrives.

Daytime · the bake

One frontage, twice a day.

Evening · the table

The frontage says it

The lettering above the window says microbakery brunch bistro — three words that carry from the daytime bake into brunch and the evening table.

The bake

The day starts at the bench.

Pastry, bread and ferments are made here, in this kitchen, in small batches. The list moves with the season, so it changes through the year.

Evenings

Then the room turns to wine.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings the kitchen sends out a shorter seasonal menu — sharing plates built to surprise — and the wine list is chosen to sit alongside it. The list is ever-evolving and approachable, pouring from winemakers who share our philosophy in craft and care.
